Brushing only cleans about 25% of your mouth. In order to clean the remainder of it, you need to floss and use mouthwash as well. Since there are so many mouthwashes to choose from, it can make the decision about which one is best for you a little tough. We’re here to tell you how mouthwash works so you can choose one that’s right for you.

First, you should know that mouthwash does not replace a regular oral hygiene routine, which consists of brushing your teeth at least twice a day and flossing regularly. The main purpose mouthwash exists is to freshen your breath, however if you suffer from chronic bad breath, talk to your doctor about other ways to reduce this problem. How mouthwash works depends on the type you use. Most freshen the breath, while some provide anti-cavity protection and tooth whitening benefits.

Second, when choosing the right mouthwash, keep a few things in mind. Mouthwash may contain alcohol and even though this might not seem like a big deal, you may want to keep your children away from the rinses that contain it. Some mouthwashes may cause minor irritation to people with highly sensitive gums. This could go away once you get used to using mouthwash. If the irritation doesn’t go away, talk to your doctor as you may be suffering from other oral problems.

Finally, remember that when using mouthwash, the cap of the mouthwash is provided as a cup for rinsing. Do not fill the cap of the mouthwash to the rim. Instead, you’ll want to pour about 4 teaspoons of the rinse. It is up to you to dilute it with water if you experience too much minty flavor or sensitivity. Swish for 30 seconds to one full minute, followed by a short gargle. Then, spit it out into the sink. Do not rinse with extra water as this defeats the purpose of rinsing with mouthwash in the first place. The ingredients of the wash is meant to stay in your mouth in order to work.

Dental Implants use the newest technology in creating a flawless smile when someone is missing one or more teeth.  The process involves creating a false root by drilling into the patient’s bone.  This metal root protrudes from the gum line and a custom-made tooth is then attached to the root and voila, a new permanent smile.

Unfortunately though, dental implants can be hard on the pocket book.  For one tooth the patient could be looking at a bill anywhere from $1500 to $7500.  Though it’s difficult to compare this cost to other dental appliances, such as crowns and bridges, it’s important to remember that the dentist is working with living tissue. The process of dental implants is a cross between science and art and the end result has the potential to last for an entire lifetime.

In the past, dental implants were rarely completely covered by insurance.  As times change and technology advances, however, some insurance companies are seeing the great benefits of the procedure.  They may pay for the actual tooth if not the surgical procedure.  Many offices offer payment plans and can help you obtain the smile you want.

The process of creating the perfect dental implant can take some time and patience.  The average time span from beginning to end of treatment is about three to six months.  But don’t worry, you won’t be toothless during that time.  Dr. Silva can create a partial or denture to cover the existing space that will be durable and comfortable until your implant procedure is complete.

Pain is minimum and age is not considered a factor.  If you are healthy enough to withstand a tooth extraction, you are most likely a good candidate for a dental implant.

Dr. Silva and his staff at Austin Premier Dental know your new dental implant will increase your confidence and brighten your smile.  We are here to help you – just give us a call.
