Don’t fret. If you’re the kind of person that wants to be social in December and keep a healthy smile, we have you covered. At the office of Dr. Bruce Silva, we understand that while you have a lot of holiday gatherings to attend, you also don’t want it to interfere with your dental routine: brushing, flossing, and rinsing with mouth wash after every meal. Here are three ways to keep that healthy smile clean over the holidays.
- Drink the right things. To keep your smile healthy, avoid as much as possible drinks like soda, tea, coffee, and red wine. These drinks can create ugly stains on your teeth. Water is the best and healthiest liquid to consume. It controls your bad breath, washes away food particles and bacteria, and helps you avoid dry mouth. If you do consume these drinks, just rinse your mouth out immediately after.
- Eat the right things. Avoid sweets and sugary foods. Cakes, cookies, pies, and chocolate are not only bad for your teeth, they’re high in calories too. While you may not be able to completely avoid sweets during the holidays, try to stick to healthy snacks like vegetables. You can also try parsley and peppermint. Parsley has a breath deodorizer known as chlorophyll. You can also drop peppermint oil into your water to help with bad breath. If you do eat sweets, be sure to rinse with water right afterwards.
- Stick to your cleaning routine. While it might be impossible for you to brush your teeth right after each meal at parties, you can keep floss, wisps, and mouthwash on you for a quick freshen up. These are great for removing bacteria from hidden places.
